Why do I need a pond aerator, and what are the benefits?

A pond aerator increases oxygen levels, improves water circulation, reduces algae growth, prevents fish kills, and eliminates foul odors caused by stagnant water.

How do I determine the right size aerator for my pond?

The right aerator depends on your pond’s size, depth, and shape. Deeper ponds require bottom-diffused aeration, while shallower ponds may benefit from surface aerators or fountains.

What is the difference between a bottom-diffused aerator and a surface aerator?

Bottom-diffused aerators push air to the pond’s bottom, efficiently circulating water in deeper ponds. Surface aerators or fountains create surface movement, providing oxygen to the upper layers and offering visual appeal.

How much electricity does a pond aerator use?

Energy consumption varies by model and horsepower. Many aerators are designed to run 24/7 with efficient, low-power compressors to minimize electricity costs.

Can I run my aerator year-round, even in winter?

Yes! Aerators help prevent winter fish kills by keeping a portion of the pond ice-free, allowing for gas exchange. However, in extremely cold climates, adjusting placement or reducing operation may be necessary.

How loud is a pond aerator, and where should I place the compressor?

Most high-quality aerators operate quietly, with sound-dampening enclosures available. The compressor should be placed on dry, level ground near a power source, ideally in a ventilated cabinet for protection.

What maintenance does a pond aerator require?

Regular maintenance includes cleaning air filters, checking airline tubing and diffusers for clogs, and ensuring the compressor is functioning properly. Most aerators are designed for minimal upkeep and long-term performance.

How long will it take to get my aerator?

Products tend to arrive within 5-7 days

Yes. All products come with manufacturers warranty.

Why Aerate Your Pond?

The Airmax PS40 works from the bottom up, adding oxygen right where muck and organic debris settle. A shore-mounted compressor pushes air through multiple weighted diffusers on the pond floor, creating rising bubble columns that circulate the entire water column and prevent thermal stratification. With more dissolved oxygen and active natural bacteria, excess nutrients get metabolized instead of building up — leaving you with cleaner, clearer water and noticeably less muck, often within 90 days.

Built to Last

SilentAir Compressor with SmartStart Technology

The heart of the system is a whisper-quiet 3/4 HP rocking piston compressor with rubber mounts for reduced noise and vibration. SmartStart Technology protects the compressor during pressurized restarts after a power interruption. Backed by a 3-year warranty.

Airmax Composite Cabinet

An ETL-certified composite cabinet with a faux-rock finish blends into any landscape while protecting the compressor and electrical components. An elevated base guards against flood water, and a ventilation fan with rain shroud keeps things cool and dry. Backed by a 10-year warranty.

Airflow Manifold Assembly

Airmax simplifies airflow management with dual 4-port manifolds featuring nickel-plated ball valves, braided hose sleeves that protect internal airlines from wear, and quick disconnects for fast, secure connections and easy removal for storage. Set up for either 3/8" or 5/8" airline — 5/8" is recommended if total airline length exceeds 600 ft.

ProAir4 Weighted Diffusers

High-efficiency membrane diffusers release fine oxygen bubbles into the water column without the maintenance headaches of traditional air stones. An integrated check valve prevents backpressure on the compressor, and the weighted sled keeps each diffuser upright and submerged during installation. Backed by a 5-year warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which coverage I'll get from the PS40?

Coverage depends on your pond's depth: 6'-9' deep aerates up to 2 acres, 9'-12' deep up to 3 acres, and over 12' deep up to 4 acres.

Should I choose 3 or 4 diffusers?

More diffusers generally means better distribution across a larger or irregularly shaped pond. If you're unsure, call us and we'll help you size it based on your pond's dimensions.

Can the cabinet be installed far from the pond?

Yes — the compressor cabinet can sit at the water's edge or up to 1/4 mile away, connected by airline, so you're not limited to running power right to the shoreline.

Do I need an electrician to install this?

No special wiring is required at the pond itself — Airmax EasySet airline delivers oxygen to the water while the compressor plugs into a standard outlet at the cabinet location.

How long until I see results?

Most pond owners notice visibly cleaner, clearer water within about 90 days of continuous operation.

What's covered under warranty?

The ProAir diffusers and EasySet airline are covered for 5 years, the compressor and electrical components for 3 years, and the composite cabinet for 10 years.

My compressor stopped working — can I buy just that part?

Yes — the T75 (RP75) 3/4 HP replacement compressor is sold separately and is a direct fit for the PS40.
