Dock Bubblers for Docks & Marinas

What Is a Dock Bubbler?

A dock bubbler is an air-diffuser de-icing system: a compressor sits on shore or on the dock and pushes air through weighted tubing down to a diffuser plate on the bottom. The rising column of bubbles pulls warmer water up from below, keeping an area of open water around your dock, boat, or marina through freezing conditions. The term "dock bubbler" is also used more loosely by a lot of pond owners to mean any device that keeps a dock ice-free, including motor-driven ice eaters — we carry both types below.

EasyPro Air De-Icing System — True Dock Bubblers

The EasyPro Air De-Icing System is a genuine air-bubbler setup, sized to the length of your dock:

• DKSW30 — docks up to 30 feet ($749)
• DKSW45 — docks up to 45 feet ($959)
• DKDW60 — docks up to 60 feet ($1,456)
• DKDW100 — docks up to 100 feet ($1,979)

Because there's no motor in the water, it's quiet and inexpensive to run — the compressor is the only moving part, and it stays up on the dock where it's easy to service.

Motor-Driven Alternatives (Ice Eaters)

If you'd rather have a self-contained, plug-and-play unit with no air lines to run, a dock-mounted ice eater does the same job with a submersible motor instead of air:

• Kasco Marine Dock & Marina De-Icer — 1/2, 3/4, or 1 HP, keeps up to 75 feet of water open, 3-year warranty
• Scott Aerator Slinger De-Icer — available floating or dock-mounted, oil-free motor, 5-year warranty, made in the USA
• Airmax Power House Ice Eater Gen 2 — 1/2 HP (P500) or 3/4 HP (P750) models, with an optional dock mount bracket sold separately

Dock Bubbler vs. Ice Eater — Which Should You Choose?

Both keep water open through the winter, but they work differently. An air bubbler (like the EasyPro system) runs quietly and cheaply since the only powered part sits up on the dock, but it does mean running weighted airline tubing out to the diffuser. A motor-driven ice eater is fully self-contained and goes straight in the water with no tubing to place, but it uses more power and the motor itself is submerged. For most single-dock setups either works well; larger docks and marinas often lean toward the air bubbler for the lower running cost over a full winter.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a dock bubbler and how does it work?

A dock bubbler is an air-diffuser de-icing system. A compressor on the dock pushes air down through tubing to a diffuser on the lake or pond bottom, and the rising bubbles bring warmer water up to the surface, keeping that area from freezing over.

Is a dock bubbler the same thing as a de-icer?

They do the same job — keeping an area of water open in freezing conditions — but "dock bubbler" technically refers to air-diffuser systems specifically, while "de-icer" or "ice eater" more often refers to submersible motor-driven units. In everyday use, people use the terms interchangeably.

What size dock bubbler do I need?

The EasyPro Air De-Icing System comes in four sizes based on dock length: 30, 45, 60, and 100 feet. Measure the length of dock or shoreline you need to keep clear and choose the closest size up.

Do dock bubblers work in very cold climates?

Yes — they're designed specifically for winter use and are sized to maintain open water even through sustained freezing temperatures, as long as the unit is sized appropriately for the area you need to protect.

How much does it cost to run a dock bubbler?

Air-diffuser systems are inexpensive to run since the compressor is the only powered component — typically just a few dollars a month in electricity, similar to other air-based pond de-icing systems.
