The product traces back to a Chesapeake Bay fish kill in the 1980s, when its inventor equipped an early version with a flotation collar to keep open water available through winter. That same shrouded-propeller design — pulling warmer water up from below to melt and prevent ice around docks, boats, and marinas — is still the core of the Ice Eater today, refined over more than five decades of continuous production.
Beyond de-icing, Bearon also manufactures Power House floating fountains and surface aerators, along with the Weeds Away water circulator — all built on the same rugged, repairable philosophy that made the Ice Eater a category standard. Ice Eater De-Icers
The Ice Eater prevents ice formation and melts existing ice by continuously circulating warmer subsurface water to the surface. It ships complete with suspension lines and mooring hardware, ready to hang and plug in. Available across four horsepower options to match the size of the area you need to protect:
