When choosing the right pond fountain for you, it all comes down to the size of your pond. You need a fountain that has enough power to aerate your water, too. This is why we don’t recommend choosing a small fountain for a large pond or lake – it simply won’t do the trick. 

The same goes for large fountains in smaller ponds. A fountain that’s too large will overpower a small garden pond and create chaos for your fish and plant life.

Is a Fountain Good For a Pond?

Should I Buy a Pond Fountain or a Pond Aerator?

It depends on the size of your pond and goals.

• A pond fountain is ideal if you're looking for a decorative water feature and surface-level aeration in a pond less than 4–6 feet deep.
• A pond aerator oxygenates deeper layers of water, improves circulation, and supports better overall pond health, especially in larger or deeper ponds.

If your main goal is aesthetics, go with a fountain. If it’s water quality and fish health, choose an aerator.

Should a Pond Fountain Run All the Time?

The best way to keep your pond healthy and beautiful is by running your pond fountain 24/7. This means your water is constantly being circulated, and you’re always bringing oxygen into your pond. 

However, if you’re worried about what this might look like for your electricity bill, we recommend running your fountain at the hottest times of the day. It’s also a good idea to run your fountain more often in the blistering summer months, as your pond is more likely to suffer from stagnant water and a lack of oxygen, which can have huge effects on the health of your pond.

Should You Remove a Pond Fountain in the Winter?

This depends on where you live. If the temperatures are unlikely to drop to freezing, you may not need to remove your fountain at all. However, if you have a much colder climate, winterizing your fountain and pond will protect the fountain itself, the fountain pump, and all its important components. 

Keep in mind that you will need to aerate your pond or use a heater in the winter to avoid it freezing over completely. This is especially important if you have a fish pond, as freezing temperatures can harm your fish or even kill them in extreme cases.

Types Of Fountains

1.  Commercial Pond Fountains

There's a reason so many hotels, properties, golf courses and events have fountains on or around the property.  Fountains get attention and commercial grade fountains REALLY get attention.  Often using a much higher horsepower, some commercial fountains spray as high as 80 feet in the air.   We have worked with hotels, golf courses and even Major League Baseballs All Star Event to include commercial grade fountains and Your Pond Pros has the fountain to get you noticed.

2. Solar Powered Fountains

Don't have power but need a fountain for your pond?  Not a problem with solar powered fountains.  Using the power of the sun, solar power offers a solution that will keep your pond healthy and while using no electricity.  Having an electrician come out to send power to a remote location can often be very costly.  Our solar powered fountains eliminate that problem and allow you to add the beauty to your pond you've always wanted.

3. Multi Display Fountains

Tired of seeing the same spray pattern from your fountain every day?  Change it up!  Many of our pond fountains come with interchangeable nozzles, making it easy to change the look of your fountain and often times, looking like a brand new fountain!  And making the change is easy.  Most multi display fountains use a threaded nozzle to create patterns.  Simply unscrew the current nozzle and screw on the new nozzle and you're all set.  

4. Floating Fountains

Most of the fountains you'll find at Your Pond Pros are floating fountains.  What does that mean?  Exactly as it sounds.  A large, usually plastic disc that houses a pump below, floats on the water, anchored down by tie ropes.  This makes moving the fountain around very easy.  These types of fountains are easily installed and create stunning views for a lake or pond.
